Itinerary (Hanoi - Son La - Dien Bien Phu - Phong Tho - Sa Pa)

Day 1 : Hanoi - Son La (-,-,-)
Transfer from Hanoi to Son La. Journey towards the Lao border, west along Highway 6 past Hoa Binh and Moc Chau.
Overnight in Son La.

Day 2 : Son La - Dien Bien Phu (B,-,-)
Transfer Son La to Dien Bien Phu. Journey west through Ban Vay and Tuan Giao, a remote town at the junction of Highway 42 to Dien Bien Phu and Highway 6A to Lai Chau.
Overnight in Dien Bien Phu.
 

Day 3 : Dien Bien Phu - Phong Tho (B,-,-)
After breakfast, sightseeing in Dien Bien Phu, the site of the battle which defeated the French and ended their colonial control of Indochina. It is one of the most remote parts of Vietnam in the Muong Thanh Valley and is surrounded by steep heavily forested hills. Visit DBP Museum, the site of the battle is now marked by this museum. Continue to Bunker of de castries, the headquarters of this French commander have been re-created, with old French tanks and artillery pieces nearby. Then, transfer by vehicle from Dien Bien Phu to Phong Tho.
Overnight in Phong Tho.

Day 4 : Phong Tho - Sa Pa (B,-,-)

In the morning, transfer from Phong Tho to Sa Pa, a hill station built in 1922 which lies in a beautiful valley with Fansipan Mountain overlooking the valley. Sapa has both Hmong and Dzao people, the largest and most colorful ethnic groups in the region. Visit market, Thac Bac Waterfall, and Tram Ton Pass, the highest mountain pass in Vietnam.
Overnight in Sa Pa.

Day 5 : Sa Pa (B,-,-)
After breakfast, hiking excursion to visit the ethnic minorities of the Sa Pa area. Explore villages of various hill tribes around Sa Pa.
Overnight in Sa Pa.

Day 6 : Sa Pa (B,-,-)
In the morning, transfer from Sa Pa to Hanoi. Journey southeast along minor roads past Van Ban and Viet Tri.
