Itinerary (Chiang Mai-Lisu Lodge-Chiang Mai)

The Lisu Lodge near Chiang Mai is your base for visiting ethnic tribes and for exciting outdoor activities. The lure of nature is strong and you can enjoy an elephant ride through the jungle, ride on mountain bikes and learn about hill tribe villages on easy treks in this beautiful mountainous region.

Day 1

CHIANG MAI - LISU LODGE (-/Lunch/Diner)
Pick up a your hotel. In the morning transfer by local truck “songtaew” to the mountain temple of Wat Prathat Doi Suthep, the most famous landmark of Chiang Mai.
Its golden pagoda shines high over the city. The pagoda is exquisite with 6 kgs of pure gold at its peak and the rest plated with gold. The sound of temple bells fills the air, and the views down over the city make an irresistible photograph opportunity.
Drive up the mountain passing the King’s Winter Palace of Phuping and turn onto a rough dirt road to the Chiang Khien Coffee Research Project where you can enjoy a cup of the local ‘arabica’ surrounded by fabulous gardens of flowers similar to those in Europe.
Continue to the white Hmong village of Chiang Khien where 800 people still retain their traditional hilltribe clothes and culture dating back 500 years.
The modern city of Chiang Mai can be viewed down below 10 km away. Upon arrival enjoy a quick cup of steaming mountain tea with a village family and then back to Doi Suthep.
Then proceed to Lisu Lodge. Arrive at the Lisu Lodge. Traditional welcome drink will be served followed by a briefing.
Enjoy a Thai lunch.
Afternoon, experience an ox-cart ride through farmlands and orchards to the Thai village of Baan pang Mai Daeng (about an hour ending up back at Lisu Lodge).
Then, Lisu “guide” will take you for a walk through the village. You will start from Ton Lung temple to view the herbal garden and visit some local families with a stop for a cup of tea and a spot of traditional medicine at the shaman’s house.
Afterwards visit to the cultural centre or so called the ‘museum’ created by the villagers. Inside you will find a collection of typical household items and tools used by Lisu and Akha mountain tribes.
Time at leisure until Thai Dinner with traditional Lisu dance show.

Day 2

LISU LODGE (Breakfast/Lunch/Diner)
Breakfast at the lodge.
Morning start your adventure with 13 kilometers (8 miles) of cycling to the Elephant Camp.
Enjoy an hour of elephant riding through the mountainous jungle scenery down to the river.
After a healthy picnic lunch on the bank of the river, you will go on an exciting ride, about 45-minute of white water rafting that takes you to a traditional Thai country village.
From there, you return to Lisu Lodge either by bike or by local truck, whichever way you prefer yourself. On the way back, we stop at the traditional Akha village for a chat with the shaman (spirit doctor).
Arrive at the Lisu Lodge around 4 p.m.
Time at leisure until dinner. Enjoy a Thai dinner with traditional Lisu dance show.
Overnight at the Lisu Lodge.

Day 3

LISU LODGE - CHIANG MAI (Breakfast/Lunch/-)
After breakfast, depart by local truck from Lisu Lodge to Pong Duad Hot Spring. Upon arrival enjoy walking around the beautiful National Park where you may experience mineral water bathing.
Continue on road to Mork Fah Waterfall and stop en route to visit the Karen Ban Huai Phra Chao Tribe.
Lunch at the local restaurant then transfer to your hotel in Chiang Mai.

Maximum group size 12 persons (6 rooms).
For your information:
- There are 12 Mountain Bikes, 14 Elephants and 7 rubber boats and 9 oxcart.
- In dry season, white water rafting by rubber boats will be changed into bamboo rafting.
- Elephant riding (1 elephant: 2 persons), biking, rafting (1 rubber boat: 4 - 5 persons) and oxcart (1 cart: 4 persons)
