Itinerary (Lahad Datu - Danum Valley - Borneo Rainforest Lodge - Lahad Datu)



DANUM VALLEY - Borneo Rainforest Lodge is located within the famous 43,800 ha Danum Valley Conservation Area in the midst of almost 1 million ha timber concession area of the Sabah Foundation. Danum Valley is the largest protected area of undisturbed lowland dipterocarp forest in Sabah where trees can grow up to 50m tall. The forest is rich with over 200 species of trees being found in one hectare. Danum Valley Field Centre, one of the foremost rainforest research centres in Southeast Asia is 32km from the Borneo Rainforest Lodge. At the Lodge, natural history tourism complements the effort of conservation of the Danum Valley. Guided walks/trekking on nature trails, night drives in the back of open Land Rovers and canopy walkways are organized to view wildlife and high floral biodiversity in their natural habitat. Danum Valley is a Bird's Paradise with 275 species documented including all eight species of Borneo's hornbills.

4 DAYS DANUM VALLEY (FULL BOARD)

Day 1
: Lahad Datu - Borneo Rainforest Lodge (L,D)
Pick up early morning at Lahad Datu airport. Journey (2 hrs) overland to Borneo Rainforest Lodge. Attend a brief orientation and then lunch. After lunch, depart for a guided walk on a nature trail (400m boardwalk circuit) and canopy walkway. In the evening, have dinner at the lodge. If weather permits, go for a night drive to spot wild animals after dinner. Overnight Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 2 : Coffin Trail (B, L,D)
After breakfast depart for a guided walk on the "Coffin Trail" that leads to an ancient burial site (a 3km return trip), involving a 40 minute climb to a magnificent look-out point and returning via the jacuzzi pool. Walk down to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, hike the Segama Trail and East Trail (riverside route circuit). In the evening, depart for another night drive/walk in search of wildlife.

Day 3
: Danum Valley Field Centre (B,L,D)
Following breakfast, depart for Danum Valley Field Centre to look at forest nursery and planting areas. Tour the area before lunch. In the afternoon, take a walk on the nature trail, suspension bridge and observation platform. After that, a wrap-up briefing will be given by a naturalist guide. Return to Borneo Rainforest Lodge. After dinner, depart for another night drive/walk.

Day 4
: Lahad Datu (B,L)
Following breakfast, depart for birdwatching from canopy walkway, or riverside walk. Lunch. Early afternoon, depart for Lahad Datu airport.

What to bring :
