KINABALU NATIONAL PARK Easily accessible from Kota Kinabalu, the Kinabalu National Park provides a complex and varied ecological system into a relatively small area. The Park extends from 1,588m above sea level to the summit of Mt. Kinabalu at 4,095m (the highest peak in SE Asia) providing a range of vegetation from cloud forest to mountain forest to lowland forest. It was due to this rich diversity of botanical treasures that the park was recently granted World Heritage Status, along with Mulu National Park, the first park in Malaysia. An extensive network of jungle and mountain trails, plus a wide range of accommodation available make this a necessary part of any Sabah tour.

Day 1

KOTA KINABALU - KINABALU PARK -LABAN RATA

Leave the hotel in the early morning and drive overland to Kinabalu Park by coach or van (2 hours). Arrive at Kinabalu Park - register with the Park office and then continue to the Power Station (15 minutes) by coach for the start of the climb. Commence climb to Laban Rata with packed lunch. The climb will take approximately 4 hours. Check-in at the Laban Rata Guesthouse and the rest of the afternoon is free at leisure. Have dinner and overnight at the guesthouse.

Day 2

LABAN RATA - KINABALU PARK - KOTA KINABALU

Wake up as early as 0200 hours to have breakfast and commence to the summit by torchlight. The climb will take about 3 hours. Witness the beautiful sunrise at the summit at 06:00 hours. Descend to Laban Rata Guesthouse, then to the Power Station. Transfer to Park HQ. Have lunch and return to hotel in Kota Kinabalu.
