Trekking excursion to Phou Mot and ancient ruins
Depart in the morning from Green Discovery office. For best viewing of birds, departure is at early dawn. For those who prefer a relaxed pace departure is after breakfast.
Arrive at Ban Nammang, a traditional Khmu village, where our village-based guide joins us. From Nammang, ascend through rice fields and into a district forest conservation area.Atop the mountain ridge, referred to as Mock Mooch (Ant Mountain) in Khmu language, sit and take time to absorb the sites and sounds of the forest. This area attracts many bird species with its fruit-bearing fig trees, which provide an abundant food source. Local guides will help you to recognize sights and sounds of birds, as well as tracks of wild animals.Moving through the forest, and learn about common plants used by the Khmu people.
The guides collect edible plants to add to the picnic lunch in the forest.
In the afternoon, the descent from the conservation area to the plain takes us to the site of the Ancient City and Temple, Ku Vieng, Mahapot Stupa and Wat Mahapot.
Follow the map of the ancient temple area and piece together its history, imagining the civilization that dominated this area more than four-hundred years ago. Return to the Green Discovery Office by mid-afternoon.

The provincial capital of Luang Nam Tha Province, this town is expanding rapidly in its role as a centre for commerce between China, Thailand and Laos.
Visit the LOCAL MARKET and PHOUM POUK PAGODA, first built in 1624, now in ruins after the Indochina War.
Continue to the LUANG NAM THA MUSEUM for an overview of the different ethnic minorities that inhabit the area.
In the afternoon, explore the many minority villages in the area, including a BLACK TAI VILLAGE. The Black Tai are known for their silk production and weaving.
Sometimes water wheels can be seen milling rice.
Continue to a 200 year old LENTEN village, whose inhabitants are known for paper making and indigo dyes; and a KHMU VILLAGE known for basketry and water gourds.

Luang Nam Tha - Luang Prabang (Breakfast/-/-)
Transfer By vehicle from Luang Nam Tha to Luang Prabang.

Luang Prabang (Breakfast/Lunch/-)
After breakfast transfer to All Lao Elephant Camp. Enjoy (approx. 1.5 hour) elephant trek into the rain forest and down to the Nam Khan River. You will be able to feed elephants with bananas.
Drive to BAN XEING LOM or Ban SUAN VILLAGE. ,br> Start trekking to see a KHAMU village.
Lunch will be served at this Khamu village.
Arrive at TAD SAE WATERFALL which is a series of low cascading falls with large pools for swimming and monkey jumping.
Return to BAN EN SAVANH by longtail boat, then transfer back to Luang Prabang.
