9 days in the Footsteps of Buddha
Itinerary (Delhi - Lucknow - Sravasti - Krushinagar - Vaishali - Patna -Nalanda - Rajgir -Bodhgaya -Varanasi - Agra - Delhi)

Day  1
Met upon arrival from your international flight and transfer to your Hotel. Overnight at Hotel.

Day  2
After breakfast proceed for the sightseeing tour of Delhi. Delhi-The capital of India is a fascinating city with complexities and contradictions, beauty and dynamism, where the past co-exists with the present. Visit the Qutab Minar, tower of victory that was built in the 12th century by Qutab-ud-din Aibak within its spacious courtyard stands the Iron pillar, which dates back to the 04th century AD and bears a Sanskrit inscription in the Gupta Style. Visit India gate, the memories of the first world war and the road that leads from there to President House, which is flanked by Parliament House and Government Secretariat buildings.
Visit to Janpath for Shopping : Whose name means “Peoples Path” actually lives up to its name, as hundreds of people stroll around on this leafy lane of Lutyens Delhi. Bustling with activity at all times Janpath is the favourite haunt of college goers in search of some trendy clothes and high fashion jewellery on offer for dirt cheap prices. This linear stretch of road does not have showrooms or big malls, all the road is dotted with are little kiosks displaying their colourful wares.
Lunch at local restaurant.
In the evening transfer to station with packed dinner box to board train for Patna.

Day  3
Met upon arrival in Patna and transfer to hotel for breakfast. Later on drive to Bodhgaya en-route visiting Rajgir & Nalanda.
Nalanda founded in 5th century BC, was one of the world’s great universities. Visit the remains of the brick built Great Stupa and local archeological museum.
Rajgir was the capital of Magadh Empire until Ajatshatru moved it to Pataliputra (Patna) in the 5th century BC. Rajgir is an important Buddhist pilgrimage site as Buddha had spent 12 years here and the first Buddhist council after the Buddha attained Nirvana was held here. Visit Ajatshatru's fort, Venuvana, Swarna Bhandar, the Cyclopean wall. Visit the Peace Pagoda on chair lift. Lunch at hotel. After lunch drive to Bodhgaya and on arrival check-in at hotel.
Dinner & overnight at hotel.

Day  4
After breakfast proceed for the sightseeing tour of Bodhgaya.
Bodhgaya (also written Bodh Gaya) in north-eastern India is the site of the Buddha’s enlightenment and the most important of four main Buddhist pilgrimage destinations known as Uruvela in the Buddha’s time. The two major sacred sites in Bodhgaya are the Mahabodhi Temple and the Bodhi Tree, around which many other temple and monasteries of various Buddhist traditions (Japanese, Tibeten, Bhutanese, Vietnamese, Thai and others) have been built. Every year, millions of Buddhist pilgrims, mainly from Asian countries, flock to Bodhgaya to be inspired, despite negative karma and earn merit by visiting the holy site where the Buddha became Buddha (“Enlightened one”). Throughout the day and night in the height of pilgrimage season, monks in colourful robes can be seen mediating where the Buddha did, studying Dhama texts, making offerings to the many statues and stupas on the site, and circumambulating (walking around) the sacred Mahabodhi Temple. City tour of the religious town revered both by the Buddhists and Hindus alike. Visit the Mahabodhi Temple, known for its Bodhi Tree where Gautama attained supreme knowledge to become Buddha. The tree standing today is believed to have grown from the original Pipal tree under which Lord Buddha mediated.
After lunch drive to Varanasi . On arrival check-in at hotel. In the evening , go down to the banks of the river Ganges and board your private boat to witness the Aarti, a prayer to the mother river conducted every by five priests on the bank of the river.
Dinner & overnight at hotel.

Day  5
Early morning boat cruise on river Ganges. The western banks of Ganges has a string of Ghats the chain of stone steps, all built with pavilions, palaces and terraces, most of which are mainly used as Dharamsalas where the pilgrims stay during their visit to the holy city. At dawn the Ghats are abuzz with activity of the devotees performing their ablutions in the river of offering prayers to the rising sun and performing other religious Rituals. A Boat ride along th Ghats gives you vantage views of the activity. The Sunrise of the Ganges is a soul-lifting experience. Later visit the Vishwanath Temple also called the Golden Temple because of the Gold-Plating on its roof.
After breakfast proceed with the sightseeing of Sarnath. Sarnath, 10 kms from Varanasi is the fabled place, which bears testimony to its great past where lord Buddha delivered his first sermon to his disciples, expounding the principles of Buddhism. The remains date back to as far as the 3rd century BC when emperor Ashoka founded various institutions, Stupas, monasteries and pillar edicts. Visit the art collection at the Archaeological museum. The main attractions is the superb capital from Ashokan Pillar-the Ashokan symbol of four back to back lions which has been adopted as the state symbol independent India. Also visit the Mahabodhi Buddha temple and walk around the deer park. Later see the monastery ruins area, Dhameka Stupa.
After early lunch drive to Kushinagar and on arrival check-in at hotel.

Day  6
After breakfast proceed for the sightseeing of Kushinagar. Here at the age of 80 Buddha passed into Mahaparinivana. Buddha was finally freed from the eternal cycle of re-birth leaving with us all the wisdom and knowledge of Muktabandhanastupa built by Malla dynasty to house Buddha’s relics after the cremation.
After lunch drive to Lumbini . On arrival check-in at hotel. Dinner & overnight at hotel.

Day  7
After breakfast proceed for the sightseeing of Lumbini. Lord Buddha was born at Lumbini while his mother was on her way to parental home from Kapilavastu. Buddha was born in Lumbini during the full moon day in the month of vaisakh in 623 BC. He was born under a Sal tree when Mayadevi was going to her maternal town on the occasion of delivery.
Later on drive to Sravasti en-route lunch at hotel The Retreat (Shivpatinagar). On arrival in Sravasti check-in at hotel.
Dinner & overnight at hotel.

Day  8
After breakfast proceed for the sightseeing of Sravasti. In the time of Buddha Sravasti was the capital Kingdom of Kosala. It is thought that Buddha spent 24 monsoon seasons in the Jetvana gardens here.
Later on drive to Lucknow and on arrival Lunch at restaurant. After lunch transfer to station to board train for Agra (Tundla Station).
Met upon arrival at Tundla station and transfer to Agra. Check-in at hotel.
Dinner & overnight at hotel.

Day  9
AGRA-DELHI - DEPART (Breakfast/Lunch/Diner)
After breakfast proceed for the sightseeing tour of Agra. The tour of world famous Taj Mahal – perhaps no other symbol epitomizes India as Taj Mahal. Situated on the banks of river Yamuna, the Taj Mahal is an epitome of love, a poem in marble by the Mughal Emperor Shahjehan for his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is entirely made of white marble and its wall are decorated with exquisite pietra dura (stone inlay) work. It is said that different types of precious and semi-precious stones were used in the intricate inlay work done on the interiors. This magnificent monument is set around a Charbagh or four garden plan, which is spilit by water courses a reflection of the Persian style. (Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays).
Agra Fort : Built by Emperor Akbar on the west bank of the river Yamuna and beautified with palaces an gardens by Jehangir. Agra Fort today dominates the center of the city. Diwan-I-Aam (hall of public audience) and Diwan-I-Khas (hall of private audience ) were built by Shahjehan for receiving audiences. Other place to see within the fort include the Khas Mahal, Sheesh Mahal (the mirror palace) and the Anguri Bagh (the Grape Garden). After lunch drive to Delhi . On arrival in Delhi farewell dinner at restaurant.
After dinner transfer to airport to connect flight for onward destination
