Itinerary (Kunming - Jianshui - Yuanyuang - Jinping - Mengzi - Stone forest - Kunming)

MINORITY DISCOVERY IN SOUTH EAST YUNNAN
DEPARTURE : Daily with English speaking local guide

Day 1 : KUNMING – ARRIVAL (-, -, D)
Meet with your guide and transfer to your hotel. Enjoy a walk around the Green Lake park and take a first glimpse at local way of life before dinner at hotel.

Day 2 : KUNMING – JIANSHUI (B, L, D)
Drive t o Jianshui, once the economic and cultural capital of Southern Yunnan through Tonghai and the village of Xingmeng still inhabited by the descendants of Mongolian conquerors sent to Yunnan as part of the expeditionary army of Kubilai Khan some seven hundred year ago. In Jianshui, stroll along the colorful streets of the town and the fortified walls near the Muslim quarter. Lunch en route. Dinner at local restaurant and overnight at your hotel.

Day 3 : JIANSHUI – YUANYANG (B, L, D)
In the morning, continue your visit of Jianshui . You will appreciate the typical architecture of the town: Confucius Temple set in a magnificent site with its glistening glazed tile roof, the garden of the Family Zhu, a typical residential structure of southern Yunnan . Outside of town, stop at the Twin Dragon Bridge built during the Qing Dynasty and the village of Tuanshan where traditional architecture and wood carvings have been left intact. Continue your journey through interesting landscapes to Yuanyang, the center of many traditional minorities and set in magnificient landscapes of terrasse fields. Lunch and dinner at local restaurants. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 4 : YUANYANG (B, L, D)
Yuanyang is located at 2000 meters above sea level and the entire mountains here are sculpted with terrasse-field commonly called “the ladder of the sky”.T our the local market in Yuanyang or in a surrounding village, according to the occurrence where you will discover in their full traditional costumes the Hani, the Yi, Miao and Yao minorities. Spend your day outside in the villages giving you a unique opportunity to approach the villagers and see their special techniques of agriculture. Lunch and dinner at local restaurants. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 5 : YUANYANG – JINPING (B, L, D)

Continue the journey throughout the lush and tropical vegetation towards the south . Stop at villages surrounding Yuanyang nestled on a peak overlooking the terraced paddies and visit some Red Yao, Miao and Dai minority villages before reaching Jingping nearby the border with Vietnam . Lunch and dinners at local restaurants. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 6 : JINPING – MENGZI (B, L, D)
This morning, you will take part into one of the most colorful and traditional market in the area, a unique opportunity to meet them in their natural environment. Then, depart North to reach Mengzi with landscapes influenced by tropical climate and you may admire the terraced fields built by generations of rice growers. Stop at different ethnic groups villages, whose way of life is still very traditional. Mengzi was once an important stop for the French people when building a railroad between Kunming and Hanoi . Lunch en route and dinner at local restaurant. Overnight at Hotel .

Day 7 : MENGZI – STONE FOREST (B, L, D)
Continue your journey towards the Stone Forest that you will reach at the end of the afternoon. This day on the road with ever changing landscapes will provide many opportunities for stops and visits of villages. Dinner and overnight at Hote inside the Stone Forest Park.

Day 8 : STONE FOREST – KUNMING (B, L, D)
Visit of the Stone Forest , remarkable ensemble of bizarre-shaped karstic peaks created by erosion of wind and rain some two million years ago before a drive back to the Golden Temple , located some miles away from Kunming . If time permits, stroll along the old streets of Kunming . Lunch and dinner at local restaurants. Overnight at Hotel .

Day 9 : KUNMING – DEPARTURE (B, L, -)
In the morning, drive to the shore of Dian Lake to take a cable car lift to the top of the Western

Hills. Take a path winding down the cliff and passing through the famous Dragon gate before a farewell lunch in a nice restaurant. Transfer to airport for departure.
