Itinerary (Phuket , Krabi , Surat Thani or Khao Lak - Khao Sok National park - Phuket , Krabi , Surat Thani or Khao Lak )

Thailand’s first jungle camp combining the camp idea of African national parks with Thai tropical forest environment.
Khao Sok is one of the wettest areas in Thailand with an average annual rainfall of around 3,500mm. This will generally be restricted to the period between the months of May and November. At other times of the year the area is generally dry apart from the odd day of rain which helps to maintain the lush surrounding rainforest. Khao Sok is made up of hundreds of limestone Karst Mountains which vary in height starting from around 400 meters and reaching up to 960 meters at the peak of the highest one. Khao Sok is joined by Klong Naka and Klong Seng wildlife sanctuaries plus two more national parks, Sri Phangnga and Klong Phanom.

ARRIVAL KHAO SOK
(-/Lunch/Diner)
Pick up from hotels in Phuket, Krabi, Surat Thani & Khao Lak and transfer to Khao Sok. En- route enjoy the sights of the rural life in tropical southern Thailand.
Arrive at the elephant camp where you can see and learn about the life of Thai elephants, the elephant project and about being a mahout (elephant caretaker). Trekking on elephant back is a unique experience here in the rainforest, what better way is there to get a bird‟s eye view of nature.
Returning from the jungle with great appetite you will appreciate a tasty buffet lunch composed of a variety of Thai dishes cooked not too spicy.
After lunch take a jungle river canoe trip down the Sok River.
The canoes are very stable and safe; life jackets are provided as well as a local river guide to paddle the canoe. Drift along the jungle river passing Limestone Mountains and cliffs covered with exotic tropical vegetation. Sometimes hornbills can be seen flying high overhead or reptiles basking in the sun on the riverbanks. From the canoe you can experience a world that has changed little in thousands of years, some of the last areas having primary rainforest.
After all these activities close to nature it is time for a hot shower, for doing so there is no better place than in the unique bathroom of your safari tents. Relax and enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding jungle covered mountains, 100% real nature. A wide selection of cocktails, wines, and spirits are available at the “Jungle explorer‟s club bar”. Afterwards it‟s time for dinner in this unique location beside the rainforest, the sounds and atmosphere will make this a truly memorable experience.
Overnight in safari tents with comfortable beds, reading lights, hot water and western style toilets - within the rainforest! The tents‟ doors and windows are covered with mosquito netting as well as canvas flaps to avoid insects and reptiles visiting you. The temperatures at night can drop quite a bit and the tents are well ventilated; blankets will keep you snug in the cool of the night.

Day 2
|
KHAO SOK
(Breakfast/Lunch/Diner)
Wake up to the sounds of nature and birds calling from the bushes close to the tents. When the sun comes up and clears the mist over the mountains and jungle to the south of Elephant Hills, the gibbons start to make their morning territorial calls that echo down the valley. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in the tent for the early risers, enjoy breakfast.
The activity planned for today is to explore a lake in the jungle by local boat. The lake is surrounded by Limestone Mountains and cliffs covered in tropical rainforest that rise up from the shore of the lake and disappear into the far distance. The scenery has been compared to Qualin in China or Halong Bay in Vietnam. Few people know of the lake and even less have visited it. There are over one hundred islands in the lake and it is over 60 km from north to south. In the 70‟s the area was a hide out for communist and students opposing the military dictatorship. We will see some of the spectacular scenery from the boat and have time for a swim depending on the weather. Please bring swimwear and a towel. A packed lunch will be provided. In the late afternoon return to Elephant Hills for dinner.
Overnight in your safari tents where a good night of well deserved sleep is assured after all these jungle exploring activities! The jungle bar will be open for people wanting to exchange stories of their day‟s experiences on the lake.

KHAO SOK – DEPARTURE
(Breakfast/Lunch/-)
After a good night rest accompanied by background symphony of insects and frogs its time for a wholesome breakfast before starting today‟s jungle exploration on foot.
You have seen it from elephant back and from your canoe on the river but nothing compares to actually walking yourself inside the jungle. It is a unique opportunity to explore the ecology of the rainforest, to see a great variety of exotic plants: tropical hardwood trees with huge roots, orchids, palms, ferns, bamboos, moss; the varieties are endless. Birds such as the hornbill live high up above, gibbons can often be heard calling to their mates, a macaque or leaf monkey may be heard swinging through the branches, everyday is different but it is truly wonderful to discover the great variety of forms of life co-existing together. Take it slowly, watch, listen and learn then you too will start to discover some of the secrets of the rainforest.
Lunch will be served in the rainforest, cooked in bamboo, this has been a tradition for jungle explorers for centuries.
In the afternoon it‟s time to return to Elephant Hills then onward transfer to your hotel. (Services will end at hotels in Phuket, Khao Lak and Krabi).
